The 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 is Wednesday and local municipalities are holding special ceremonies that day to remember the first responders who gave their lives. In Whitesboro, the Genesis Group is sponsoring the "12th Annual Community Prayer Breakfast." The breakfast will be held at 7:30 a.m. at the Hart's Hill Inn. The prayer breakfast will feature keynote speaker Rev. Joseph Salerno, Pastor, Our Lady of Lourdes Church. For more information call (315) 792-7187

In Utica, the city will hold its annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at the 9/11 Memorial located across from Sherman Drive on the Memorial Parkway. Mayor Palmieri will place a wreath at the monument and be joined by Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, Senator Joseph Griffo, and Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol who will all speak. Following the ceremony, the names of the New York City Firefighters and Police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001 will be read. For more information call (315) 792-0264

In Herkimer, the Herkimer County Community College will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony outside the Williams Library building. HCCC President Ann Marie Murray and English teacher Matthew Powers will speak for the college while Mohawk and Herkimer Police Chief Joseph Malone will speak on behalf of the community. There will also be a  student speaker, sophomore Adam Lisser, an Iraq war veteran and current member of the New York National Guard. For more information call (315) 866-0300 ext. 8525

In Rome, The Rome Police and Fire Memorial Park Ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the park on Black River Blvd. This year the City of Rome will honor Firefighters William Kemme, William Albrecht, Douglas Abel, and Patrolman Gerald Washburn by adding their name to the Wall of Honor. All are welcome to attend and celebrate those who have served the City of Rome.
