The former Rite Aid building on Genesee Street in Downtown Utica will soon become the home of a New York City style deli.

The city sold the building to developers who plan to open the new restaurant. It will be located near the 'Busy Corner' of Genesee and Bleeker Streets adjacent to Freeman & Foote Jewelers.

The NYC style deli joins a burgeoning downtown restaurant scene that includes the seafood restaurant Ocean Blue on the top floor of the Landmarc Building.

Utica mayor Rob Palmieri, in making the announcement on Facebook says the property is

the 7th downtown building sold to private developers in 4 years and the 10th major commercial property sold under my administration.

Neither a name or opening date for the new deli have been announced.
