Have you heard of The Kindness Rocks Project? Well, it's here in Utica and it's something for the whole community to have fun with.

The Kindness Rocks Project was started by Megan Murphy, a Women's Empowerment Coach. It's goals are simple:

Goal #1: Inspire others through randomly placed rocks along the way…

Goal #2: Recruit every person who stumbles upon it to join in the pursuit of inspiring others through random acts of kindness. (The Kindness Rocks Project)

The movement has spread around the country and around the world. And quietly this spring, it spread to the Utica area. Connie Lynn started the Utica NY Rocks Facebook Group with the hopes of spreading a little kindness, bringing out creativity in our friends and neighbors, and giving the community a fun activity to participate in. It's even something easy to get the kids involved in right now.

It starts by painting a few rocks. Get creative - any colors and designs you'd like. Be sure to add a message on the back like this:

If found, please post a photo to Facebook group Utica NY Rocks. Re-hide (Connie Lynn)

Once you've painted your masterpiece, Connie recommends sealing the entire rock with an acrylic sealant to protect the design from weather. She also says it is best to put them in public places, anywhere in Utica or the surrounding area, somewhere that will be easy for people to find. Parks or landmarks are great ideas if you're looking for someplace to start.

Connie is a teacher at West Canada Valley and started a "rock group" for students to get involved in painting rocks. She will now be distributing them around the area. If you're a teacher, maybe this would be a great project for your class in the fall.

Of course, join the Facebook group and have a look at some of the rocks people have been hiding and finding. My kids can't wait to start hiding rocks!
