Sunday September 28th is the 40th anniversary of Utica's Falling Leaves Road Race. Sponsored by the Utica Roadrunners, this race is a great way to gear up for fall running while enjoying the changing colors of fall here in Central New York.

Did you get inspired to run after watching the Boilermaker this past July? The Falling Leaves Road Race has a couple of different course options for runners.  For a shorter run or first time runners, try the 5k. There's also the 14k, which takes runners along South Utica's hilly switchbacks. The 5k is also open for wheelchairs.

Kids can also be part of this fall running event with the Falling Leaves Kids Run. Kids 2-7 run half a kilometer and kids 8-12 run one kilometer. No fee to be part of the kids run.

All races start and finish on Genesee Street near the Radisson Hotel in the heart of downtown Utica.

Race times are 8:15 for kids, 8:55 for 5k wheelchairs, 8:50 for the 14k and 9:00 for the 5k.

Typically the weather is pretty cool for the Falling Leaves Road Race but you never know when Mother Nature will surprise us.

For those runners looking to win, there are awards for the races except the kids run.

Get application details here.

Here's to a great 40th Falling Leaves Road Race on Sunday the 28th.
