The Erie Canal played a significant role in transforming New York into the Empire State.  Now young New Yorkers have the chance to learn that history with a new exhibit open at the Children's Museum in Utica.

Museum Director Marlene Brown describes the exhibit:

The Erie Canal played an important role in New York state's history and as an important landmark, this new exhibit at the museum will enable youngsters to work the locks themselves, thus learning, hands-on, how the boats traveled the canal, through the locks.

The Erie Canal exhibit is housed on the second floor of the Children's Museum  located on Main Street at Utica's historic Bagg's Square.
