While there are wheeled contraptions available to give mobility to handicapped pets, the Amigo — a new wheelchair from industrial designer Nia Shalom — is specially optimized for the way pups move.

Shalom, after some exhaustive research into the physiology of dogs, created a harness that specifically contours to the animal’s body and takes into consideration their needs.

As seen in the video, the designer’s friend’s dog Amy has no problem adapting to the Amigo and moves with the vivacity of a puppy. It’s just about the cutest thing on two legs and two wheels.

The Amigo isn’t available in stores yet, but, says Fast Co. Design, is “well on its way to becoming a reality.”
