He has appeared at thousands of restaurant grand openings, including many here in Central New York.  But now, McDonald's famous mascot is laying low while police receive hundreds of reports of "creepy" clowns.  The fast food chain has announced that Ronald McDonald will be limiting his appearances during this clown hysteria.

McDonald's execs are being "thoughtful in respect to Ronald's participation in community events due to the current climate around clown sightings" reports the New York Daily News.  The mascot will still appear in the name of Ronald McDonald House Charities world wide.  McDonald's is the largest corporate contributor to that charity.

The happy clown has appeared in McDonald's commercials for over 50 years.
