The city of Utica is one of the best cities in the world, however no city is perfect. One of the things that frustrates people most are traffic problems. One of the biggest sources of traffic jams are stop lights. Again, these are mechanical devices that are expected to malfunction at some point, but there are some areas of this city where it seems to be an ongoing annoyance.

Where are the intersections in Utica with the WORST traffic lights? Well, we're going to tell you.

5. Genesee St. and Newell St. - There have been reports of blinking red lights on both sides and a "No Turn on Red" Sign. Think about that one for a minute.

4. Sunset Ave. and Burrstone Rd. - There are times, especially in the morning, where the light to turn right onto Burrstone from Sunset (heading toward the Parkway) will never turn green and there is a "No Turn on Right" sign.

3. Genesee St. and Barton Ave. - This light may be one of the WORST. Right near Our Lady of Lourdes Church is a light that takes what seems like forever to change for people wanting to turn onto Genesee, and once it turns green it only lasts for seconds.

2. Oriskany St. W (Rte. 5s) and Broadway - If you have ever taken this road to get to The Utica Memorial Auditorium, you know exactly what I am talking about. The traffic light for people crossing Route 5s (Oriskany St.) will stay red for a really long time, then turn green for maybe 30 seconds, if that. This is very frustrating, especially with the Utica Comets game traffic.

1. Route 49 Exit onto River Rd. (Marcy Business District) - On the way to our stations on River Rd. in Marcy, you can take Route 49 to this exit. If it's early in the morning, you will have to wait for a second vehicle to come up behind you for the light to turn green and allow you to turn left onto River Rd. It will give the person the green arrow to get onto Route 49 from River Road, but then will go right back to green to go through.

If there are any traffic lights that are a nuisance to you, let us know and we will definitely add it to the list. Also, by default any light on Genesee Street can be annoying, so we will put that in it's own category.
