Why Are So Many Websites Down – GoDaddy Hit With Denial of Service Attack DNS Down

If you’ve gotten several broken links while surfing the internet this afternoon, the problem is probably not on your end. GoDaddy.com the internet domain registrar and site hosting service was hit with a severe Denial of Service attack.
In layman’s terms, a denial of service attack is an attempt to make a network, such as GoDaddy, unavailable to its users.
In the case of the GoDaddy attack, the DNS, or Domain Name System, was attacked.
A member of the online group Anonymous has claimed responsibility.
UPDATE 3:50PM:
GoDaddy responds via Twitter that they are aware of the outage and working frantically to restore service to downed websites.
