You can go fishing without having to pay for a fishing license on certain days this year, courtesy of the Department of Environmental Conservation.

If you've always wanted to try fishing, or if you've been hoping to take the kids fishing instead of having them sit inside playing video game, here's your chance to do it for free. The Department of Environmental Conservation is sponsoring Free Fishing Days throughout the year, and this weekend, June 23-24, is one of those times.

During Free Fishing Days/Weekends, anyone can fish the fresh waters of New York State and no fishing license is required. All other freshwater fishing regulations still apply, according the DEC.

Not sure where to start when it comes to fishing? The DEC has some basics on their website: Fishing Basics, and they also offer some great tips about taking a child fishing as well.
