The power company that serves most of Upstate New York is asking for higher prices for their gas and electricity service.  National Grid wants an increase of $326 million a year for electricity and $81 million for natural gas.  If approved, the rates would take effect next April.

For the average customer, that means about $11 a month for electricity and about $10.50 a month for gas.  According to an article at times.union.com,  that's just over a 10 percent increase from what we are now paying.

National grid serves over one-and-half million customers here in Upstate New York.
