The American Heart Association has been doing so much in our community, especially with their 'Go Red for Women' campaign. We decided to talk with local survivors, and hear their story and what the American Heart Association has done for them!

So far we've heard stories from Bonnie Hubbell and Christine Meyers. Today, we share the story of another local survivor, Val Slater.

Val Slater started having heart problems when she was just three years old. She ended up having open-heart surgery when she was 13. This is her story.

Val gives us wonderful advice, "listen to your heart" - and she's right! If something doesn't feel right, you should definitely get it checked out. See a doctor and just make sure everything is okay. You'll be glad you did, even if nothing is wrong.

The American Heart Association is hosting their 'Go Red for Women Luncheon and Health Fair' Wednesday, May 6th. You can get more information on this event, and other things going on locally with the American Heart Association at: heartofutica.heart.org
