Ariel Sharon, the former Prime Minister of Israel, died today, January 11th, at age 85.

USA Today reports Sharon died from complications from a stroke which he'd suffered eight years ago.  Sharon, nicknamed Arik, first experienced a small stroke in 2005, followed by a severe brain hemorrhage in the beginning of 2006.

His son Gilad told the Associated Press his father went on his terms.

He has gone.  He went when he decided to go.

Sharon had been in a coma since January 4, 2006.
