It appears that one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects was an aspiring boxer here in the United States several years before he carried out his terrorist plot.

In a photo-essay by Johannes Hirn 'Will Box For Passport', Tamerlan Tsarnaev is working out in the gym. However, moments after coming across the site, WIBX learned the photo gallery had been removed (some of the photos in that gallery are featured in the youtube video below). is reporting that Tamerlan Tsarnaev won a novice Golden Gloves fight and later was awarded the Rocky Marciano Trophy:

According to the official website of the Golden Gloves, Tsarnaev did participate in the 201-pound division in 2009 but lost a decision to Lamar Fenner of Chicago.

In a photo essay leading up to the Golden Gloves bouts, he said he thought he could use boxing to earn American citizenship, going so far as to say he thought he could make the U.S. Olympic team.

In the same essay, however, he hinted that he wasn't completely comfortable in the U.S., saying:  "I don't have a single American friend, I don't understand them."

Several media outlets report Tamerlan Tsarnaev was the bombing suspect who was killed in a shootout with police early Friday morning.
