8.0 Earthquake Strikes Off Coast of Chile – Tsunami Alert [VIDEO]

A strong magnitude 8.0 earthquake has struck off the coast of Chile in the Pacific Ocean. Tsunami alerts are in effect for portions of South America.

Update 8:45PM: According to the NWS, the magnitude has now been upgraded to 8.2.

The National Weather Service in Seattle has indicated that a tsunami has formed but at this point is not a threat to the United States.
