BrandYourself.com., a company started by Syracuse University students, may get some major backing thanks to the reality TV show 'Shark Tank." The company, will compete for money from potential investors, called "sharks."

BrandYourself helps people look great online. It began when co-founder, Pete Kistler, couldn't get an internship in college because he was being mistaken for a drug dealer when managers looked him up during the hiring process. He teamed up with his classmates, Patrick Ambron and Evan McGowan-Watson to start the company in 2011.

They put together a team, raised venture capital and began building. The result? T the first and only free DIY online reputation management tool that guides people through the process of improving search results for their own name.
"We decided to put the power of SEO and online reputation in everybody's hands, regardless of how tech savvy or wealthy they might be. Anyone should be able to control their own online reputation, so we offer you the tools and services to do so. It’s your name, own it."

In 2011 the company employed 10 people while headquartered in Syracuse. Today, they've moved their headquarters from Syracuse to New York City and have over 60 on the payroll.

Brand Yourself will appear on ABC's Shark Tank Friday, March 20th at 9pm.
