NBC journalist Tom Brokaw has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the bone marrow.

Brokaw, who currently serves as a special correspondent for NBC, revealed his medical condition yesterday.  He was diagnosed with the cancer at the Mayo Clinic in August and according to USA Today, has been responding well to treatment.

While multiple myeloma isn't curable, it can be treated.

The 74 year old veteran journalist released a statement thanking those who've been supporting him.

With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends,  I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and the adventures still to come.  I remain the luckiest man I know.

A positive attitude in the face of a horrible disease like cancer is commendable.  I wish him well.
