Mother of Jim Carrey’s Late Ex-Girlfriend, Cathriona White, Suing Actor for Wrongful Death
Jim Carrey has no choice but to continue to pore over the September 2015 suicide of his ex-girlfriend, Cathriona White — White's mother, Brigid Sweetman, is suing the Truman Show actor for wrongful death.
Sweetman alleges Carrey used his celebrity status to supply White with the drugs she ultimately used to kill herself, according to The Irish Times. Sweetman noted Carrey should be "ashamed" of himself, and also accused him of degrading White leading up to her death.
White’s body was found in her Sherman Oaks home after she overdosed on a mixture of prescription drugs including Ambient, Propranolol and Percocet. None had been prescribed in her name.
"As a family, we want the world to know the truth about who Jim Carrey really is — a man that will give your daughter three STDs, lie about it, call her terrible names and demean her, use his high-priced lawyers to try and shut her and her family up, and then give her illegal drugs," Sweetman's statement says.
Mark Burton, White's estranged husband at the time of her death, is also suing Carrey for wrongful death, and similarly claimed in September that Carrey used his star power to obtain the pills White used in her suicide.
Carrey has insistently denied he played a part in White's death, and said her suicide was a sad result of a preexisting condition.
"I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved,” he told People. “Cat’s troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control. I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace."
White's suicide note surfaced in July, and shed light on her pain in the days leading up to her death. "I'm just not for this world," she wrote.
