This could be something different for our area.  There's a proposal on the table to add a butterfly garden to the new Mohican Wetlands park in the Village of Mohawk.

Plans for the new park already include a rain garden, and the new idea is to make it a rain/butterfly garden.  The garden would be in addition to recreational fields, a picnic pavilion, restroom facilities and a trail that are already planned for the new park.

According to the Times Telegram, the idea came from the Amazing Gracie's Gift Foundation, an organization that provides support to families fighting pediatric cancer or other serious illnesses.  It's named in honor of Gracie Lawton, who died at age 1 from a rare form of cancer.  Their proposal calls for the garden to be called Gracie's Butterfly Garden.

Construction of Mohawk's new park is expected to resume this spring.  The village was given grants from the Department of State as well as the Office of Parks and Recreation to help pay for the project.
