A 17-year-old bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by a milk tanker that was backing into a driveway on Route 274 in the Town of Steuben.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office says Brenda Brouty, 43, was preparing to back into the driveway of a farm when she heard a loud noise. Brouty got out of the tanker and found the teen laying underneath a raised 3rd axle on the truck, deputies said. The bicyclist, Christopher Welch of Barneveld, suffered head and leg injuries and was airlifted SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

Brouty, of Carthage, was ticketed for not having reverse lights and an audible working alarm on the tanker, deputies said.
