Winter weather has finally returned in New York State after a long stretch of mild temperatures making it feel more like Spring. If you're heading out to enjoy the snowy mountains, be advised. There is a risk of possible avalanches in the Adirondack Mountain backcountry.

Is there ever an avalanche in New York State? Yes, there is and here's what the NYS DEC is saying to do before you head to these Upstate snow areas:

It may look more like spring in Central New York but it's still winter in the Adirondacks where there is a risk of avalanches.

Several ambulances are first responders are on the scene of an avalanche at the famous Mount Washington in New Hampshire.  The incident occurred in an area known as Tuckerman Ravine.
