The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of Central New York, with several areas under a winter storm warning.

A winter storm could bring as much as 10 inches of Lake Effect Snow to CNY. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings/Watches for the area.

The City of Utica has declared a Snow Emergency which will go into effect at 11:00 Thursday night.

Is Lake Effect rain a real thing? Can Central New York actually get it?

New York's second largest metropolitan area has been hard hit by a historic lake effect snow event that has dropped 50 inches and counting on parts of the Buffalo area. Fire departments and first responders from around the state are responding by sending any help they can spare.

Several Lake Effect Snow warnings have been posted for Central New York with a foot or more of snow forecast.
