Move over Mother Nature. Old Man Winter isn't done just yet. He's bringing a polar vortex to Central New York that'll feel more like January than the last week of March.
A national weatherman is predicting a potentially big storm heading toward Central New York, while a Mohawk Valley meteorologist says it's too early to tell for sure.
The Washington Post says the Polar Vortex will return to the U.S. this week. This hasn't happened since January and is a rare summer time occurrence. It will move into the Great Lakes region, near us in the Mohawk Valley first before it heads to the East Coast. Temperatures are expected to be between 10 and 30 degrees below normal. Brrrrrr.
It's Google's most searched term today, 'polar vortex.' So what is it, and more importantly, what is it not. The National Weather Service took to social media to dispel some rumors.
Old Man winter has packed a seriously cold punch lately. A "polar vortex" of frigid, dense air has blasted much of the US with frigid, sub-zero temperatures and it's not over yet. Central New Yorkers, we have a Wind Chill Warning in effect from midnight tonight until 7pm Tuesday night.
