More than 1,000 people are without power in Oneida County.

Central New Yorkers are no strangers to bad weather. It's just a fact of life. Sometimes, the weather gets so bad it leads to a power outage. Then what?

The National Grid website reports wide-spread power outages in both the City of Utica, New Hartford and New York Mills. The total number is somewhere above 5,000 and crews are working to correct the problem.

Even when the power is out you can still get the latest information on power outages, when you can expect power to be restored and the latest weather forecasts.

The wind and ice storm that swept through Central New York this week is still impacting many in Oneida and Herkimer County. On Wednesday there were over 10,000 without power for most of the day. National Grid has worked to correct most of the issues, but some are still in the dark. One local school has even closed for the day.

With many areas of Central New York dealing with power outages due to the nasty weather, we figured we would give you some ideas of things to do.

National Grid is reporting a power outage in the Villages of New Hartford and New York Mills as well as South Utica.

UPDATE: 04/20/2015 09:45am  Although a cause has yet to be determined a spokesperson for National Grid says that power has been restored to most residents.  Any customers who are still experiencing power outages should call the company.

Partial power outages are being reported in parts of North Utica, Marcy, and Deerfield at this hour.

Hundreds of people around Central New York remain without power after severe thunderstorms Tuesday.  This may be putting the cart after the horse, but here are some tips on getting the latest information on power outages and weather conditions.

General Herkimer Elementary School is on a two-hour delay because of a power outage this morning.
