Many people will be back in Utica this weekend for the first time in a while for the city's 45th running of the Boilermaker Road Race, and some new changes downtown will open some eyes, and probably get some people driving the wrong way.
Utica attorney and school board member Joseph Hobika Jr. was elected Utica School Board president on Tuesday night at the board's organizational meeting. Danielle Padula was elected Vice President.Hobika replaced retiring President and former Utica Mayor Louis LaPolla.
During a Utica School Board meeting late last year, board leadership admitted that a local businessman was aggravating the district with his consistent emails and Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests. Now, the businessman, Howard Potter, is asking why it took so long for the district to respond to him, and why he was overcharged for the documents he requested.
Residents in the Utica City School District will head to the polls next Tuesday, December 7, to vote on a nearly $18 million dollar referendum to establish on-site Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
