
Pilot Who Made Emergency Landing On New York State Thruway Is Only 19 Years Old
Update: New York State Police have identified the pilot of the small twin-engine plane that made an emergency landing on the New York State Thruway near Exit 23 in Albany on Friday.
Logan M. Steed, 19, of Winnsboro, South Carolina, was piloting the plane when mechanical issues forced the landing. Passengers on the plane included Steven D. Strunk, 54, and April D. Strunk, 52, both of Mount Perry, Ohio.
Steed realized the aircraft would not reach the runway at the airport, due to engine trouble, and decided to land on the Thruway.

The emergency landing occurred at approximately 12:43 p.m. Check out the video from a traveler on the Thruway.

The New York State Police and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the mechanical failure.

Earlier today, a small aircraft made an emergency landing on the northbound lanes of the New York State Thruway between exits 22 (Selkirk) and 23 (Albany).
Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident. First responders and Thruway staff worked quickly to secure the scene, leaving only the right lane closed for a few hours.

The plane has since been safely removed and the right lane was reopened to traffic.
