The water supply for the city of Rome is not effected by a chlorine spill that happened late Saturday at the water treatment plant on Stoke-Lee Center Road.  That's what the city's deputy fire chief told the Rome Sentinel.

Because chlorine gas is harmful to breath, two of the three workers at the plant were taken to the hospital as a precaution after the spill, but they were not seriously inured.  The haz-mat team arrived at the plant Saturday night, and are working on clean-up.

The fire official said a problem with a valve on the chlorine tank caused the spill.  It was contained inside the newly built plant.  However, traffic was shut down in that area of Stokes-Lee Center Road.
