Promising ‘America’s Got Talent’ Contestant Killed Just Weeks Before Audition Airs
America's Got Talent has suffered a tragic loss early into its 12th season: Brandon Rogers, a doctor with a beautiful singing voice, has died just weeks before his audition was scheduled to air. Now, the show is considering not airing Rogers' spot at all.
According to TMZ, Rogers died on June 11 from injuries sustained in a car accident in Maryland. He was first discovered by AGT's producers after singing Boyz II Men's "On Bended Knee" on Instagram, but he had been uploading covers to YouTube for nearly a decade.
Rogers' cover was so popular, in fact, that Boyz II Men, themselves, invited him to perform across a three-night gig in Las Vegas. The group praised his talents after learning of his death.
"It hurts to know that the world will never have a chance to witness what his impact on the world could have been as a Doctor and even on the music world," the group wrote on Instagram. "A great spirit and a great voice. Even for the little time we knew you you will be sorely missed. May God Bless, keep and comfort your family in this difficult time."
Now, AGT producers are struggling to decide whether to air Rogers' performance, which is slated to pop up on the show in July. TMZ reports that Rogers' family would still love to see him on the show.
