More than 7 million may be affected by the cyberattack on Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield. Hackers may now have your personal information.Here is a statement from Christopher C. Booth, President and CEO of Excellus:

 Excellus BlueCross BlueShield was targeted in a very sophisticated cyberattack. We recognize the frustration and concern that this news may cause, and we are making services available to protect you and your information moving forward.

 We are providing two years of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services.  You can sign up for these services today. We have also established a toll-free number – 1-877-589-3331 – where you can call with questions related to this incident.

Excellus BCBS investigation revealed that the first attack occurred December 23, 2013, and the FBI was notified. The investigation also determined that the attackers may have gained unauthorized access to individuals’ information, which could include name, date of birth, Social Security number, mailing address, telephone number, member identification number, financial account information and claims information. This incident also affected members of other Blue Cross Blue Shield plans who sought treatment in the 31 county upstate New York service area of Excellus BCBS. Individuals who do business with us and provided us with their financial account information or Social Security number are also affected.
