Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band’s Future Up for Debate

As both Tony’s right-hand man in ‘The Sopranos’ and Bruce Springsteen‘s main confidant (and guitarist) in the E Street Band, Steven Van Zandt has spent the bulk of his career speaking very carefully to others about business at hand.

So when Van Zandt says there will be a meeting soon with “the boss” about the group’s future without late saxophonist Clarence Clemons, you know it’s going to happen.

Van Zandt expects they’ll all get together and talk things over in the next few weeks, and he expects to be playing music with Springsteen and the E Streeters again because, as he put it, “that’s what we do.”

With rumors circulating about a new Springsteen album coming out this fall, it would make sense for the reconfigured E Street Band to be ready for a possible tour. But it will be a band now lacking not one, but two of its most distinctive instrumental anchors, Danny Federici being the second.

Clemons died in June at a Florida hospital, days after suffering a stroke. The 69-year-old was one of the longest-tenured members of Springsteen’s E Street Band, as was keyboardist Danny Federici, who died in April 2008 of melanoma at age 58.
