Could NY’s New Tint Law Be Repealed?
We reported in December on a new law regulating window tint going into effect this month. When you bring your car for a NYS Inspection, your windows will be tested as well. If your tinted windows block more than 30% of sunlight, your vehicle won't pass the inspection. It's primarily on the front windows - if you have back windows tinted but have adequate "outside" rear-view mirrors, you'll probably be all right.
Lots of drivers and auto businesses are quite upset with this law. There are already laws in place to fine drivers who's view is impaired. So do we really need this new law or is it just more unnecessary bureaucracy? It looks like there might be a way you can express your dissatisfaction with this law. There is a petition at Change.org that wants Governor Cuomo to repeal the law. There are over 6300 signatures there already, but they need it to reach 7500 to deliver the message to the Governor. Take a look and see if you would like to join this action by clicking here. (UPDATE: there are well over 8000 signatures now, so the petition will definitely be delivered to Governor Cuomo. There is still time to add your name to the growing list.)
