I first stumbled onto George RR Martin's fantasy series A Song of Ice And Fire in the late 90s.  I'd never really read fantasy.  Most of the classics passed me by like the Wheel of Time and The Lord of the Rings (never have read those or seen the movies).  That major strike to my fantasy credibility aside, the books of the Song of Ice and Fire are amazing in that even though they are set in this Medieval-inspired world of chivalry, knights and kings, they are so much deeper than a simple hero's quest-type story that litter the genre.

The first book of the series is the inspiration of the first season of HBO's Game of Thrones which will make its debut this Sunday April 17.

I popped on the webcam a while back and blathered a few of my thoughts on the books and the upcoming series.
