Additional Information

Nomad Cinema is holding a fundraiser on Friday, October 7th for the Utica Zoo's Primate Building Campaign at Woodland Farm Brewery starting at 7PM. Tickets are $2/person and all ticket sales go directly to the Primate Building Campaign.

Nomad Cinema, Central New York’s premier roaming outdoor movie theater, will be an
outdoor screening of "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" (2014)(PG-13) at Woodland Farm
Brewery (6002 Trenton Rd, Utica, NY) on Friday, October 7th at 7:00pm to help raise funds for
the Utica Zoo Primate Building Campaign. The Primate Building was built in 1927 by a $17,000
donation from the Utica Lions Club and is in need of some major updates. It currently houses
White-Handed Gibbons, Mexican Spider Monkeys, and Golden Lion Tamarin. The zoo staff are
constantly told by visitors that they don't like the bars and the staff can only reply, "We don't
like it either." But now the public can help the Utica Zoo reach their $350,000 goal by simply
enjoying a movie under the stars.
Admission is only $2/person and all ticket sales will go directly to the Primate Building
Campaign. A donation box will be available at the bar for additional donations. Food trucks will
be on hand serving up a themed menu around 6:00pm. The audience is encouraged to bring a
folding chair or blanket to the screening. In the event of inclement weather, October 8th will
be the rain date. This fundraiser is made possible by these awesome sponsors: MPW
Marketing, Made in Utica, and Woodland Farm Brewery.
TEAMING UP WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES
“Nomad Cinema isn’t confined to the four walls of a theater. That gives us the freedom to be
everywhere and the chance to highlight new outdoor venues,” explains Restive. “We’ve
worked with local businesses to make each screening special to the region, while also
showcasing each business at the event. The relationships we’ve formed with area businesses
have been the icing on the cake.”
"We at Woodland are extremely happy to be able to help the Utica Zoo and their primate
campaign, we feel it's a wonderful cause. " said A.J. Spado, President/Owner of Woodland
Farm Brewery. "We would like to announce that a dollar of every beer sold for the movie
screening will be donated to the primates (building campaign) as well."
“We are grateful to have organizations like Nomad Cinema, and Woodland Farm Brewery
teaming up to raise money for our primate campaign" said Utica Zoo Communications
Coordinator Mike Beck. "The greater Utica community has been very generous since we
started our campaign, and we are currently at over $201,000 of our $350,000 goal. Since this
movie takes place before October 31st, all donations will be matched, up to $25,000 by an
anonymous Utica Zoo donor.”
ABOUT NOMAD CINEMA
Nomad Cinema’s massive 25’x14’ inflatable screen and professional sound system transform
outdoor venues into unique, under-the-stars movie experiences. Nomad was founded in 2014
by Michael Flores and Utica native Mario Restive. “We became friends in film school” said
Restive. “And our love of all things film made Nomad Cinema a natural progression for us.”
Nomad has screened films in Utica, Syracuse, Cooperstown and even as far as Chittenden,
Vermont. “We often connect a venue and film thematically,” said Flores. “We screened “Jaws”
at Syracuse’s Inner Harbor, “Rio” at the Utica Zoo and “Chef” at the Syracuse Food Truck
Rodeo.”
