You can look outside and see the leaves changing, or see the haunted houses starting to open up, but there is one fool-proof way to know that summer is officially over in Central New York.

Yes, summer is over - that's obvious. The leaves are starting to change color, the 'pumpkin spiced everything' craze has taken over, the weather is getting cooler... the list goes on and on. But one thing happens every year that PROVES summer is officially over, and it's time to start getting ready for the winter season. And that thing has to do with beer.

Central New York has Ommegang, the Saranac Brewery, Nail Creek Pub and Brewery, and tons of other beer destinations right at our fingertips. We know our beer, and we like it!

That gets us to the point of this story... How to tell that summer is officially over. All you have to do is look at the breweries. Remember this guy?

Yep, it's gone. Gone until next summer. Which is a sad thought, but at least it's getting replaced with something. Now that we're into fall, Saranac has released their fall brews - beers like 'Pumpkin Ale,' 'Octoberfest,' and 'Dark-tober(fest).'

So there's a silver-lining to this otherwise sad story. Yes, the fall beers are here. Yes, that means summer is over. But it's only for the time-being. Soon, the beers will change to the winter collection, then spring, then before we know it - Summer Pils will be back!
