Holy unrecognizable, Batman!

Entertainment Weekly has just shared a jaw-dropping first look at actor Jessie Eisenberg complete bald for his new role in the upcoming superhero film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Jesse will step into the shoes of Lex Luthor, Superman's nemesis and one of the most iconic comic book bad guys of all time.

Gone is the actor's trademark curly mop. Instead Eisenberg casts a villainous steely gaze directly into the camera.

Zack Snyder, the film's director, talked a bit about what we can expect to see from Jesse's performance. “He’s not any of the Lexes that you’ve seen, that’s for sure,” he said. “Other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course.”

This is definitely a different kind of role for the Oscar-nominated actor, who is best known for playing goofy and aloof sensitive-dude roles. But taking on the personality of a master villain is right in line with Jesse's recent acting trajectory. Eisenberg played the very unsympathetic protagonist in 2010's The Social Network, i.e. Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg. And later, in director Richard Ayoade's 2013 adaptation of Dostoyevsky's The Double, he played both a nebbish office worker and his devious doppleganger.

“Our Lex is disarming and he’s not fake,” Snyder said of Jesse's current gig. “He says what he believes and he says what’s on his mind. If you can unravel the string and decipher what he means, it’s all there.”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled to hit theaters a year from today, on March 25, 2016.
