Every week at PopCrush, we’re putting the spotlight on one up-and-coming act you need to know about. Why? So you can get on board early before everyone else and their mother jumps on the bandwagon…and so you can be that one friend in the group who’s always like, “Um, actually, I prefer their earlier work.”

A fitted jacket can get you the attention of passersby, and you can count on a poncho to protect you from the elements, but as Ofelia K. has just dutifully reminded us, there's simply nothing like the comfort of a reliable white T-shirt.

The artist, signed to Nashville's South By Sea, is finalizing her forthcoming EP, but her sound is already clear—her lane's paved with silky breaths and especially deliberate guitar plucks. Now, having spent years mixing and laying down gravel, she's excited to finally drive down the smoothed-over road.

"It took me a few years after moving to Los Angeles to really define the sound I wanted," Ofelia told PopCrush. "I spent that time writing, collaborating, observing, working in studios, and pushing myself creatively. Now it's the fun part, getting to finally share the music and play live. I've found a killer team and it's exciting that people have been so supportive."

And a track like "White T-Shirt" is proof Ofelia's formative years were well spent. The song, which sort of registers like Ingrid Michaelson take on Taylor Swift's "This Love," soothes while still managing to spell out pronounced heartbreak. It's outright angst with familiar coffee-shop charm.

"Hands shaking, two feet on the floorMake the dead move, they're aching for more," Ofelia whispers over light, inviting drums and before a trio of carefully restrained horn blasts. "Oh oh oh, I'm kicking myselfAnd now you're gone."

Take a listen to "White T-Shirt" and Ofelia's newest, "As A Bell," above, and hold tight for more!
