Raggedy Ann and Andy to Dance Their Way Onto the Big Screen

Knickerbocker Toy Co.

Before we get to this news story, we want to make sure you’re sitting down because this may be the news you’ve been waiting for your entire life. If it isn’t, then you’ve got a really weird life because it should be. News just hit the web that a big screen version of Raggedy Ann and Andy is heading to the big screen. Hello? Didn’t faint on us, did you? Ok, good.

Variety reports that the raggedy duo will be starring in their very first big screen musical comedy courtesy of The Gotham Group and puppeteer Kevin Clash. If you don’t know who Kevin Clash is, he’s the guy who brought the character of Elmo to life and made him one of the most popular Sesame Street characters in history. He’s the subject behind the documentary “Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey” and is probably the best person suited to bring this project to theaters.

The movie will be a mix of live-action and CGI/puppetry with a lot of celebrity cameos. Think of it as another Muppets-type movie. Only with gingers.

Raggedy Ann was created by Johnny Gruelle in 1915. Raggedy Andy came along two years later. The popular characters have been seen in books and of course, the popular dolls, which has spawned merchandise for decades. Gotham Group’s previous big film credits include the forgettable adventures ‘Abduction’ and ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles.’

No word on casting or if Clash is playing both characters or what is actual involvement will be in the production. We’re sure it’ll be interesting to say the least. We’ll keep you updated.
