Sherman Hemsley, the Actor Who Portrayed George Jefferson, Dies at 74

Sherman Hemsley, the actor who played the character George Jefferson first on 'All in the Family' and later on the spin-off, 'The Jeffersons,' has died.

Hemsley was 74. Media reports indicate that he passed quietly this morning at his home in El Paso, Texas.

Both Normal Lear creations, 'All in the Family' and 'The Jeffersons' dealt with race relations.  This is a classic clip from 'The Jeffersons.'
