‘Strasburger’ Might Be the Worst Food to Buy at a Baseball Game

If you happen to be at a Washington Nationals baseball game this year, you may notice the Red Porch concession stand selling a ginormous sandwich named after Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg called the “StrasBurger.” But while it might look tasty, this may actually be one of the worst pieces of sports fare calorie-wise.

So what exactly is in the StrasBurger, you ask? Eight pounds — no, that’s not a typo — of ground brisket, chuck and short ribs on a bun with secret sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions and pickles.

Health professionals are, needless to say, horrified.

Registered dietician Colleen Gerg, who did a nutritional breakdown of the beast, surmised it has between 8,000-10,000 calories, 600-700 grams of fat, 200-300 grams of saturated fat and 2,500-3,000 milligrams of sodium. In other words, it’s really, really bad for you. Even eating just a quarter of the burger would meet or exceed one person’s caloric needs for an entire day.

As for the burger’s namesake, Gerg added:

I guarantee Strasburg didn’t get to where he is by eating enormous amounts of unhealthy food laden with excess calories, fat (mostly saturated) and sodium. The guy’s own mother is a dietitian after all!”

Would eat a Strasburger, or should we say, Strasbomb?
