One of the roads that was closed during this summer's flooding is New York State Route 171 which traverses the Frankfort Gulch. If you aren't from the area, you may not even know about the road. It's the only state route that doesn't connect to any other NYS Touring Route.
And then there were two. Voters in the Herkimer School District followed a path first blazed by those in Frankfort by defeating a measure that would merge school districts in The Valley. In a vote conducted today that involved the districts of Ilion, Mohawk and Herkimer, voters in Herkimer blocked the proposed three district merger.
