On May 2nd, 1983 an F3 tornado and other storms ripped through and ravaged 11 New York counties. People were killed, several were injured, and there was detrimental property damage. On this week 33 years later, we remember that day with this Raw Footage from Matt Lanza who worked at WKTV at the time.

A group of volunteers, led by local contractor Derrick Baker, came together to make a difference and pick up the pieces in Smithfield after last years tornado leveled homes and killed four people. The weekend was spent constructing a new barn for Don DeGroat, who not only lost the building, but his daughter and granddaughter in the tornado.

Families are still trying to pick up the pieces after a devastating tornado claimed four lives and leveled homes in Smithfield over a year ago. Local contractor Derrick Baker is now looking for volunteers to help rebuild.

Footage of a tornado enveloping a car and making it simply disappear is sure to make you shiver in horror.

Ever since I moved out here, I've heard time and time again that Central New York isn't an area where tornadoes are common. Why then, do I keep having dreams about tornadoes?!

Madison County wasn't the only place a tornado touched down. The National Weather Service is now confirming two more hit in Oneida County.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is moved through Onondaga County, Syracuse then along the Route 365 corridor in Oneida County through Verona, Rome, Holland Patent and Ohio in Herkimer County.

A strong line of thunderstorms brought wind damage and possible tornadoes to portions of Central New York.
