Federal and state agencies are holding nearly $60 billion in assets that go unclaimed. If you do the math, that works out to be about $185 per US citizen. You can find out if you're owed any of that cash.

You may be owed money if you own property or an asset that you simply forgot about, and according to Unclaimed.org:

Every U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands - and Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta in Canada have unclaimed property programs that actively and continuously find owners of lost and forgotten assets.

Banks, investment companies, insurance companies, and government agencies may be holding some of these "unclaimed funds." State laws require these businesses to surrender inactive accounts to the state.

Last year a woman from Missouri banked $6.1 million in unclaimed funds. If you learn that you're this fortunate, please share the wealth. It's really easy to find out if there's money waiting for you; simply enter your name and address at Unclaimed.org.
