WalletHub is out with its list of 2018's Best & Worst Community Colleges. A couple of Central New York two-year schools, both in the Mohawk Valley, placed in the top 100, out of 715 colleges surveyed.

Some of the metrics used were Cost & Financing, Graduation Rates, Student-Faculty Ratios, and Return on Educational Investment as indicated by post-graduation jobs and salaries. Here are some of New York state's highest-rated community colleges in our area:

Impressive overall scores for both Herkimer and MVCC, which ranked an attractive 75th in the Cost & Financing department.

The top community college overall on the list is Arkansas State University-Mountain Home and the worst is Ohio's Eastern Gateway Community College at #715.

The best college you've never heard of? Stella and Charles Guttman Community College, on West 40th Street in New York City, is #2 overall on the list.
