What Is an Ifrit? New Paranormal Creature Introduced on HBO’s True Blood
In a world filled with vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, maenads, the fae and were-panthers (did I get them all?) is there room in the 'True Blood' universe for another supernature species? Apparently yes. Explore the history and myth behind the ifrit.
Note - this does contain slight spoilers for the 'True Blood' episode that originally aired on Sunday July 8.
Ifrits are a type of jinn (or geanie) in Arabic mythic traditions. The creature is made of fire. Traditionally, infrits can be either good or bad spirits. In 'True Blood,' the infrit is attacking and burning members of a US military unit, including main character Terry Bellefleur, that massacred a Middle Eastern family.
