Whole Foods is being investigated for overcharging customers. I think I see why: a couple of months ago, I got charged $24 for a container of salad.

When I visited the Whole Foods at Colonie Center awhile back, I couldn't help but notice an amazing looking salad bar. I helped myself to one of their recyclable containers and I loaded up. Everything at the bar looked delicious so I filled up the container pretty full. I walked up to the register and the cashier put it on the scale.  My jaw dropped when she told me how much it was going to cost me.

I don't remember the exact amount but I want to say it was $23 and change. I asked her if there was any way out of this debacle, but she kindly smiled and said "No, I'm sorry." I reluctantly paid, walked away, found a table, and ate my salad very, very, very, slowly.

If you've ever been to Whole Foods, then you already know that their salad bar items are top notch. They're delicious indeed, but $23.00?!  According to the Huffington Post:

New York City's Union Square location charges $8.99 for a pound at the self-serve bar, which means financially-conscious consumers have to be smart about exactly which ingredients go into their salad box.

I was shopping in the Albany location so I don't think I was being charged $9.00 a pound. Even if they charged me $8.00 for 16 ounces, is it possible I had almost 3 pounds of food in that container, or did I get taken for a ride?

Whole Foods is back in the news for allegedly overcharging customers. According to Yahoo News:

In a sting operation during the fall, inspectors weighed 80 items from eight Whole Foods stores across the city and found inaccurate labeling on every item, according to New York City's Department of Consumer Affairs. The investigation found many of those labels overcharged customers by having weights listed that did not match the actual weight of the product. For example, inspectors weighed eight packages of chicken tenders, which were priced at $9.99 per pound. Consumers who purchased these packages would have been overcharged by about $4.13 on average, according to a DCA release. One package was overpriced by $4.85.

I'm glad the salad at least tasted good!
