It's in dark times like these that music fans must band together. Following the news that Zayn Malik left One Direction, Boston's mayor Marty Walsh commented on the situation.

During a Twitter Q-and-A session on Wednesday (March 25), one user asked the mayor why he didn't comment on the biggest news story of the day.

".@marty_walsh Why have you not yet released an official statement on the Zayn Malik situation? #AskMJW," @choll12 asked on Twitter.

The mayor responded from his own Twitter account, writing, "We are all devastated about Zayn Malik but we must soldier on."

One thing keeping One Direction fans together during this saddest of times is the support from other fandoms. Fans of Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and more singers are each trending Twitter hashtags to Directioners in a beautiful act of social media unity.

Like Mayor Walsh, fans were devastated when news broke that Zayn was leaving 1D after nearly five years. Directioners immediately trended numerous hashtags, including #alwaysinourHeartsZaynMalik, #ByeZayn and #zayncomeback.

As reports circulated that Harry Styles might leave the band as well, we began our grieving process by remembering Zayn's best moments with One Direction, re-living his happier times with the band and listening to his best solos while we silently weep.

It looks like we'll finally get an answer to the question One Direction poised on their fourth album: "Where do broken hearts go?"
