5 Central New York Places To Go For Spring Break
It's just around the corner. Most area schools will be closed for Spring break beginning April 14th, Good Friday. The weather will hopefully continue to improve over the next couple of weeks, and we've put together a list of great Central New York attractions that you and the kids will enjoy.
The Utica Zoo
This is one of the best small zoos in the country. Fun and interesting exhibits including the rare Red Pandas that put a smile on everyone's face. The zoo is open everyday, and prices are very reasonable.
Howe Caverns
The kids (and adults) will love exploring this huge cave and taking the underground boat ride. This attraction is open every day during recess and the drive is under 90 minutes from most areas here in the Mohawk Valley.
The Farmer's Museum
This is one of the best places for getting an up close look at New York State history. Fascinating exhibits and an actual town that is set in the 1800's. There are also many other great places to check out while in Cooperstown.
Fort Stanwix
The National Parks Service has done a great job with this landmark in the heart of Rome. It combines history and entertainment. There is a new high-tech visitor's center, and of course the restored 1700's era fort. No one will be bored while spending a couple of hours at this attraction.
Herkimer Diamond Mines
Fun and also educational. Prospecting for the famous Herkimer diamonds opens the week of recess. There's a gift shop and a café with very reasonable prices.
Spring recess is coming quickly, so hopefully these ideas will make it a little more fun and interesting this year.
