7 Thrilling Events in the Utica Area this Weekend
As usual, there's so much to do in Central New York this weekend it's hard to pick. And so much of it has to do with food. Here's our lineup of seven fun and delicious things to do around the Utica area (8/4-8/6).
The Color Vibe 5k is back Saturday morning (8/5/17 - 9am) and there's still time to get registered. It takes place at FT Proctor Park in Utica. Children 12 and under run free. And a portion of the proceeds go to benefit the Kelberman Center. Check out the full details on Facebook.
That's right - you can get your food truck fix Saturday from noon til 3 at The Stanley. The Theater will be open for tours, and there will be live music from Justin Smithson, Spencer Morgan, John Savage and Carter Jackson, and "Two Of Us", with Jim LaPaglia and Kevin Besig. The food trucks and music will be setup in the city parking lot right next to The Stanley.
Brewfest is back - sip a huge variety of craft brews while being surrounded by animals... and a few of your friends. Can you believe this is the 19th year the zoo has held this event? Don't forget to try the new "Zoo York State IPA" from Woodland Farm Brewery and check out this year's commemorative pint glass featuring the red panda. And thanks to Brindisi, Murad, Brindisi & Pearlman, you can get a free Uber for the ride home if you need it. Get your advanced sale tickets at the UZ's website.
SummerStage at Rome Capitol Theatre is presenting their last show of the season this weekend. With shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday night at 7:30, there are plenty of chances to fit a musical into all your other adventures. It's basically a musical adaptation of 2002 film of the same name which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. These roles are being portrayed locally by Brett Hammes and Michael A. Wratten, who have been frequent actors in SummerStage shows. This guarantees to be another entertaining night of local theatre.
They're still throwing one heck of a festival up there on the hill. The Sacred Heart-Saint Mary's Parish has so much going on Friday night and all day Saturday. You'll find music from Tony's Polka Band, the Polish Dacing Group - "Tatry", a huge flea market, games and prizes. And lets not forget about the food! They'll be serving up the famous Polish Platter, with Kielbasa, Perogies, Golumpki, along with some traditional Polish beer to wash it down. You can find a full list of activities on Facebook.
You can tour the world with all the great festivals in our area. The Taste of Lebanon has only been going on for 7 years now, but it has become another premiere event. Music and dancing, cooking demonstrations, and of course tons of delectable Lebanese cuisine - from hummus and tabouli to kibbeh sandwiches and grape leaves, and so much more. It's going on Friday until 9pm, Saturday from 1pm-9pm and Sunday from 11 to 4, so it's ok if you have to go back a couple times to take it all in.
Wrap up the weekend with an exciting and exhilarating performance in Rome. Every year drum corps from around the country come to RFA Stadium to compete in this Drum Corps International event. This year, 9 groups will perform starting at 6:30pm. You can learn more about the competition on our webpage.
Remember this list the next time someone says they're bored. It's just another average weekend in the Utica area.
