Adele Explains Her Five-Year Hiatus Statement
Take a deep breath, Adele fans. Yes, she’s taking a break after her triumphant, Grammy-sweeping year, but it looks like that whole “five-year break” thing was some sort of misunderstanding: According to Adele’s latest website update, she’s due to return to the studio in the very near future.
“I’ve a few days off now, and then it’s the Brit Awards here at home and then I’m straight into the studio,” explained Adele in a post titled ’5 Was My Favourite Number But Now It’s 6.’ She closes with: “BOYYAHH! 5 years? More like 5 days!”
Her most recent remarks contradict what she said in her March cover feature for Vogue, in which she promised, “I am f—ing off for four or five years…If I am constantly working, my relationships fail. So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy.”
Adele’s relationship focus is a good thing for her boyfriend, charity head Simon Konecki. As she explained during the interview, “I am attentive. I will do anything for my man. I am a good cook. I’m funny. Always want to have sex — Well, most girls don’t!”
Whatever she ends up doing next, it sounds like there won’t be any shortage of inspiration for new material — even if it doesn’t spring from the same sort of emotional turmoil that helped her create the heartbreak-drenched ’21.’ Here’s to that “happy record,” whenever it comes out.
