"Getting fit is not scary," is the message Boilermaker Road Race officials are spreading this Halloween.

Boilermaker Road Race Executive Director Tim Reed says potential participants in the 2014 Boolermaker will have just two days to register.  Security concerns necessitate in-person registration for youngsters.  Sign-ups will take place Friday, October 17th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, October 18th from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

Children ages four through twelve may participate.  Officials reiterate that this is a "run," not a race, and the focus is on fun, not on the time it takes to complete the course.  Distances will be age-appropriate.

The Boolermaker itself will take place Saturday, October 25th at 10:00am at the Masonic Care Community.  Estimated start times for each of the runs are as follows:

  • 10:00am      1/4 mile run for 4-6 year olds, special needs
  • 10:15am      1/2 mile run for 7-8 year olds
  • 10:30am       3/4 mile run for 9-10 year olds
  • 10:45am      1 mile run for 11-12 year olds
Runners should be at the start line at least ten minutes prior to the indicated start times.
Although costumes are permitted, the use of common sense is urged.  As indicated on a posting on the Boilermaker's Boolermaker webpage, "Outfits that pose a tripping hazard, masks that cover the face, weaponry, etc. are all   highly discouraged. No strollers, wheelies, in-line skates or pets. Please wear sneakers appropriate for running."
